SharePoint : Master Page

Master Pages define the basic structure, or skeleton, of a web page. Master pages contain rectangular target areas called content placeholders that are targeted by layout pages. Multiple layout pages are used in conjunction with a single master page, and the layout pages provide content within the framework of the master page. SharePoint Designer allows master pages to be created and edited.
